Overview
As an all through school for Year 5 - 11 on the
same site, Priory Academy is uniquely placed to
ensure the best possible progression for its
students as they move through Key Stage 2 to
Key Stage 4. We share good practice, teacher
expertise and high-quality facilities across all
ages, and as a result we avoid the dips that can
occur with transition. We aim to provide
challenge for the most able and ensure excellent
support for those who need it.
Students are expected to become independent
learners while they are with us, seeking information
for themselves, challenging accepted and received
ideas and coming to their own informed judgements.
Our students produce work of undisputable quality in
all years and are rightly proud of all that they
accomplish.
Their learning is enhanced by balancing both digital
learning and traditional learning. Students in Years 7 11 have their own iPad to be used for learning in
school and at home – enhancing our aim of providing
8education for a changing world9. We offer our Key
Stage 2 students the opportunity to work with iPads
to familiarise themselves and prepare them for later
learning. This digital learning offers students an
exciting opportunity to learn in creative ways whilst
also developing skills ready for the digital landscape
of the future. However, face to face communication,
oracy and handwriting are given an equal focus and
these skills are developed fully through our
curriculum.
We have a highly trained, well-motivated and
dedicated staff of teachers and learning support
assistants: many of whom have additional
qualifications in their subjects or further higher
educational study. They dedicate a great deal of their
time to planning lessons, producing personalised
bespoke resources and sharing strategies and good
practice with their colleagues.
Every student in our school is different and as a
result, we look to ensure every student has a rich
individual experience.
Oracy at Priory Academy – Proud to be a Voice
21 School
At Priory Academy, we believe that every child
deserves the opportunity to find their voice. As a
proud Voice 21 school, we place oracy at the heart of
our curriculum, recognising that the ability to
communicate effectively is a vital skill for learning,
relationships, and future success.
Our approach is guided by the Voice 21 Oracy
Framework, which supports children to develop their
speaking and listening skills across four key strands:
physical, linguistic, cognitive and social-emotional.
From learning how to project their voice with
confidence, to using precise vocabulary, structuring
their thinking clearly, and showing empathy in
discussion, pupils are taught to communicate with
purpose and respect.
Through debates, discussions, storytelling and
presentations, our pupils learn not only to share their
ideas but also to listen actively and value the
perspectives of others. We believe that oracy
empowers children to become more confident
learners, engaged citizens, and thoughtful leaders of
the future.
